Walking away

Well, since Desiree is posting about her ambitiousness, I thought I ought to at least mention that I am *not* going to be "running" the 1/2 marathon in June, I am planning on walking it. My knees are just not going to take the punishment.

That said, Audrey and I walk in the evenings to the walk at home videos several times a week and we love it. Audrey does circles (spinning to make herself dizzy) or makes me carry her - she is 3 1/2 so that is good exercise.

My general plan for walking the 1/2 Mara in June is to walk in the evenings at home until it gets nice, but then outside with the stroller. And then on the weekends try to do a longer walk each weekend to get my stamina up for 13.1 miles. Which, by the way, it seems absolutely crazy to walk/run that far unless you are a pioneer and have to, so I am not sure how Claire talked me into it.

Week 2, Day 1

I immediately told Nate I was not going to the gym today when my alarm went off at 5 a.m. Luke had been up all night sick. Thirty minutes later I was still wide awake listening to Luke cough and dreading Nate's alarm going off in another 30 minutes knowing I would still be awake stressing about not sleeping. I decided to get up, but then decided the treadmills at the gym would be full and decided to go back to sleep. I finally gave in and made it to the gym. I can't believe it is February and there were still so many people there at 5:50 in the morning. Shouldn't the New Year's Resolutioners be done by now? By the time I got my coat off and was done grumbing a treadmill opened up and I ran three miles and became a nicer person. I need a running playlist on my ipod.

Does it count as running if you stay at 5.0 on the treadmill?

Last week I ran or grandma jogged, however you want to call it, two times and went skiing once. I think skiing counts since it kills your legs! The first running day I did two miles and my knees ached and my hip started to hurt and I wondered what I was doing. The second running day I did three miles, only the third time ever in my life that I've run that far. The happy endorphins kicked in after mile 2 and I though that runners may be onto something.
